Senior HR Consultant for India Operations (Healthcare and Remote Workforce Structure)
A US-based client with an established presence in India is seeking a senior-level HR Consultant to architect, refine, and formalize the entire HR framework for their India operations. The consultant will lead the creation of HR policies, labor-compliant procedures, leave structures, reporting systems, employee governance documents, and organizational hierarchies for existing staff. This is a strategic consulting engagement for an India-based HR expert with a minimum of ten years of hands-on experience managing HR operations, labor compliance, and policy infrastructure at scale.Scope of WorkThe consultant will collaborate directly with leadership to build a structured and compliant HR ecosystem tailored for a fast-growing India operation. Core responsibilities include:HR Policies and Governance• Develop comprehensive HR policies covering attendance, leave, remote work, holidays, performance oversight, disciplinary procedures, grievance redressal, and employee conduct. • Ensure all policies are compliant with Indian labor regulations and applicable state rules. • Standardize employee documentation, including handbooks, guidelines, and acknowledgments.Labor Compliance and Regulatory Frameworks• Review current HR practices and align them with statutory requirements. • Build labor-compliant processes for working hours, break rules, contracts, terminations, and recordkeeping. • Advise leadership on compliance risks and procedural safeguards. Leave Structures and Workforce Procedures• Design or refine leave policies, including maternity, paternity, earned leave, sick leave, casual leave, and special leave frameworks. • Build workflows for approvals, accruals, documentation, and tracking across distributed teams.• Establish structured escalation and communication procedures. Organizational Hierarchies and Reporting Models• Map and formalize existing hierarchical structures for clarity and governance. • Define reporting lines, span of control, and escalation paths for all existing teams. • Recommend improvements for operational efficiency and accountability. HR Operations and Employee Lifecycle Processes• Standardize processes for onboarding, employee file management, confirmations, evaluations, and exits. • Create templates, forms, and documentation packages to support each stage of the employee lifecycle.• Build a scalable system for monitoring compliance and ensuring process consistency across teams. Ideal Consultant Profile• Minimum ten years of HR leadership or consulting experience within India. • Strong background in HR policy design, labor compliance, and organizational structuring. • Demonstrated experience supporting large teams or multi-location operations. • Expertise in Indian labor laws, statutory requirements, and HR governance frameworks. • Proven ability to formalize existing HR practices into structured, compliant, scalable systems.• Prior experience supporting US or international clients is an advantage but not required.
