Solid Waste Crew SupervisorThe purpose of this position is to provide daily oversight and supervision of a line of service for solid waste operations provide and oversee solid waste personnel while providing a high level of customer service.Essential Duties andResponsibilities:Investigates and confirms City staff's collection service deliveries.Plans, initiates and monitors City staff's daily activities.Plans and monitors the effectiveness of business recycling programs.Observes, documents, and evaluates City staff performance.Operates equipment in support of daily collection activities as needed for continuity of service schedules.Oversees and executes customer service activities and initiatives.Supplemental Functions:Performs other similar duties as required.Job Specifications andQualifications:Knowledge:Operating heavy equipment and hand and power toolsSolid waste and recycling collection principles and practicesApplicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulationsBudgetary principlesLicensing and Certifications:Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License;CPR and First Aid Certified.PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards.Required Skills:Supervisory principlesReading and interpreting dataPerforming basic mathematical calculationsPrioritizing and assigning workSolving problemsOperating requirements and operating heavy equipment and hand and power toolsOperating a computer and applicable software applicationsApplying local, state and federal laws, rules and regulationsCommunication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.RequiredExperience:High school diploma or equivalency, with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in Solid Waste & Recycling and demonstrated leadership experience in the form of Supervisor, Team Lead or Crew Leader; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.Please be sure to complete the application in full.Resumes may be uploaded with your application but will not be accepted in lieu of a fully completed application and will not be considered for qualifying credit.
