Hondo Finance, a premier private lender specializing in financing for seasoned real estate investors and developers, is seeking a Vice President, Mortgage Operations / Loan Coordination. This role will lead and scale the firm's loan operations function, overseeing the end-to-end loan lifecycle and ensuring operational efficiency while enhancing the borrower experience.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage the end-to-end RTL and fix-and-flip loan lifecycle from application through closing, construction draws, and payoff, ensuring complete documentation, accuracy, and adherence to internal guidelines and investor requirements
- Build, standardize, and continuously improve loan operations workflows to support pipeline growth, capacity planning, and consistent turn times across purchase, rehab, and refinance transactions
- Oversee construction draw processing, coordinating with borrowers, inspectors, and internal teams to release rehab funds accurately and on schedule
- Manage pipeline reporting and capacity planning to ensure loans move efficiently through underwriting, closing, and funding within committed timelines
- Partner with underwriting to evaluate borrower experience, purchase price, rehab scope and budget, After Repair Value (ARV), liquidity, and exit strategy for each transaction
- Review complex loan files — including entity-held borrowers (LLCs, partnerships), multiple investment properties, and construction budgets — to support sound credit decisions and mitigate portfolio risk
- Oversee quality control review of funded loans to verify documentation integrity, confirm compliance with internal and investor guidelines, and identify process gaps or discrepancies
- Coordinate with transactional attorneys, title, and closing teams to ensure final loan documents are accurate, complete, and ready for signing
- Serve as the primary point of coordination with third-party vendors and service providers across the loan process — including draw management and inspection firms, title and escrow companies, transactional attorneys, mobile notary services, and loan servicing partners — ensuring accountability, quality, and turnaround times consistent with Hondo Finance's service standards
- Establish and manage vendor relationships and workflows to support current operations, evaluating performance and recommending changes where needed to improve efficiency or borrower experience
- Serve as an escalation point for complex files, borrower issues, and vendor or cross-departmental questions, providing guidance on underwriting conditions and resolution paths
- Build and lead an internal loan coordination and processing team as Hondo Finance scales, recruiting, mentoring, and developing staff and transitioning functions from third-party resources to in-house capacity where it makes sense for the business
- Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture — internally and with outside partners — that supports Hondo Finance's reputation for speed, flexibility, and transparency
- Identify operational risks and inefficiencies in the loan lifecycle and recommend and implement best practices, technology, and system enhancements to improve workflow efficiency and loan quality
- Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional teams (credit, capital markets, servicing, compliance) on strategic initiatives that support portfolio growth
- Stay current on regulatory changes, investor guideline updates, and industry trends affecting business-purpose and RTL lending
- Support loan servicing handoff, boarding, and loss mitigation coordination as needed
Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in mortgage or private lending operations, loan processing, underwriting, or loan coordination
- Minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in RTL (Residential Transition Loan) / fix-and-flip or other short-term, business-purpose real estate lending, with demonstrated knowledge of purchase and rehab financing, construction draw management, and ARV-based underwriting
- Demonstrated experience managing the full loan lifecycle from application through closing and post-closing quality control
- Strong understanding of borrower entity structures (LLCs, partnerships), KYC review, and credit risk evaluation for real estate investors and developers
- Experience coordinating with underwriters, credit teams, transactional attorneys, title companies, and mobile notary services to support accurate and timely closings
- Prior experience leading, mentoring, or providing team-lead oversight to loan processors or coordinators, and/or managing third-party vendor relationships within a lending operation
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex files under tight timelines
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered
- Candidates currently working as a Senior Loan Processor, Loan Coordinator, Underwriter, or similar individual-contributor role within RTL/fix-and-flip or private lending, and ready to step into VP-level leadership, are strongly encouraged to apply
- Experience with construction, bridge, or ground-up lending in addition to standard fix-and-flip transactions
- Familiarity with automated underwriting and loan origination systems (LOS) used in private or business-purpose lending
- Experience with loan servicing platforms and coordinating loan boarding and payoff processes
- Track record of implementing process or system improvements that increased operational efficiency or loan quality
