Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Kforce Inc is seeking a Remote Senior BI Engineer specializing in Data Architecture. The role focuses on data infrastructure, data modeling, and governance, requiring expertise in technologies such as Snowflake and Looker, while collaborating with various business units to enhance data processes and quality.
Responsibilities
- Own and enhance Snowflake transformation processes within the Daasity ELT framework
- Write, troubleshoot, and optimize complex SQL transformations
- Manage incremental and full data refresh strategies
- Consolidate transformation logic across NetSuite, Shopify, WMS, and marketing systems
- Build reconciliation processes between key business systems
- Design and maintain scalable LookML models, explores, views, and derived tables
- Improve performance through optimized joins, PDTs, and datagroup configurations
- Establish governance standards for metrics, field definitions, and data consistency
- Partner with Finance, Operations, Merchandising, and Marketing to create sustainable data models instead of one-off reporting solutions
- Maintain end-to-end data lineage and documentation
- Monitor data quality, freshness, and pipeline performance
- Evaluate future architecture decisions, including Daasity vs. dbt approaches
- Lead technical scoping for new data source integrations and platform expansion
Skills
- 5+ years in BI/analytics engineering with production Looker/LookML experience (models, explores, derived tables, PDTs, access filters) - not just dashboard consumption
- 4+ years of advanced SQL in Snowflake or a comparable cloud warehouse (window functions, incremental merge patterns, query performance tuning)
- Direct experience with retail/ecommerce data models: order lifecycle, fulfillment, inventory, returns, customer/CDP data - ideally spanning a DTC platform (Shopify/BigCommerce/Salesforce Commerce) plus an ERP (NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP)
- Experience working within a vendor-managed or templated ELT/transformation framework (Daasity, Fivetran + dbt, Matillion, or similar) - comfortable extending vendor patterns without introducing untracked one-offs
- Demonstrated ownership of data governance practices: field documentation, metric standardization, deprecation of unused assets, access control
- Strong stakeholder communication - able to translate finance/ops/merch requirements into data models and explain tradeoffs to non-technical leadership
- Ability to independently produce and maintain data lineage documentation at the level of source system, warehouse object, BI object, business consumer
- Experience with semantic layer design, data governance, and scalable architecture
- Strong Snowflake, SQL, and Looker expertise
- Background in BI, analytics engineering, or data engineering
- Builder mindset with the ability to balance technical engineering and business needs
