The Payroll Analyst is responsible for executing payroll processing activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and collaborating with various teams to maintain payroll records.
Responsibilities
- Execute assigned payroll processing tasks for regular, off‑cycle, bonus, and multi‑state payrolls in accordance with established procedures
- Review payroll outputs for accuracy, completeness, and policy compliance prior to submission
- Serve as a first point of contact for routine payroll questions and issues; escalate complex matters as appropriate
- Perform payroll reconciliations between payroll systems, general ledger, and third‑party vendors
- Investigate discrepancies, document root causes, and implement corrective actions with guidance
- Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audit requests
- Assist with year‑end payroll activities, including W‑2 preparation, reconciliations, and compliance checks
- Apply federal, state, and local wage‑and‑hour regulations, tax requirements, and garnishment rules to payroll transactions
- Follow defined controls and procedures to support payroll compliance
- Monitor regulatory updates and escalate potential impacts to senior payroll team members
- Prepare recurring and ad‑hoc payroll reports for HR and Finance
- Analyze payroll data to identify variances, errors, and trends
- Provide data summaries and observations to support payroll review and improvement efforts
- Partner with HR, Finance, Benefits, and Timekeeping teams to support accurate payroll processing
- Work with external vendors to resolve routine payroll system or processing issues
- Provide guidance to HR and managers on standard payroll practices and timing within established policies
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 2 years of progressive payroll processing experience
- Experience working with payroll and HRIS systems (e.g., Workday, UKG, or comparable platforms)
- Working knowledge of payroll legislation, wage‑and‑hour rules, and pay cycle execution
- Ability to analyze payroll data and resolve discrepancies with guidance as needed
- Experience reconciling payroll results and supporting audit activities
- Proficiency in payroll, timekeeping, and HRIS systems; ability to troubleshoot routine issues
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with HR, Finance, and external vendors
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting tools
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
- Certified Payroll Professional
