The Account Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of employer clients, ensuring client satisfaction and retention through expert guidance on employee benefits and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary or supporting contact for an assigned book of business, ensuring timely and accurate service delivery across all client needs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, brokers, and internal teams to deliver an exceptional client experience
- Assist with or lead the preparation and delivery of pre-renewal, renewal, and open enrollment meetings, aligned with the client’s service calendar
- Collaborate with consultants, analysts, and leadership to assess benefit plan performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and deliver recommendations
- Maintain working knowledge of client-specific benefit programs, vendor arrangements, and compliance requirements
- Proactively address client inquiries, service issues, administrative concerns, and vendor escalations
- Support or lead the development of benefit communication materials and compliance deliverables
- Monitor project timelines and ensure the on-time completion of renewals, reporting, open enrollment materials, and other deliverables
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes and mentor junior team members as applicable
- Take initiative to anticipate client needs and resolve issues independently, stepping in to handle day-to-day matters so producers and consultants can focus on strategy and new business
- Proactively seek to understand all areas of the business, from analytics and compliance to vendor management and renewals, rather than staying within a single lane, building the cross-functional knowledge of a well-rounded account manager
Skills
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in employee benefits, human resources, or health insurance
- Strong understanding of group health plans, funding arrangements (fully insured and self-funded), and applicable regulations (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities with a high level of professionalism and accuracy
- A genuine self-starter mentality: takes ownership, follows through without close oversight, and actively looks for ways to add value rather than waiting for direction
- Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn every facet of the business, with the ambition to grow into a well-rounded account manager who understands how all the pieces fit together
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort presenting to executives and large audiences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- High attention to detail, strong organizational and analytical skills, and a service-oriented mindset
- Active Life & Health license required (or must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
- Minimum of Bachelors' degree from accredited institution
- Experience with benefit administration platforms and/or CRM systems is a plus
- Related business degree preferred
