Overview
Nakupuna Companies is seeking a e Legal & Compliance Specialist. The Legal & Compliance Specialist provides day-to-day operational and substantive support to the General Counsel and the Chief Compliance Officer. This role spans a broad range of practice areas including employment/labor, government contracting, intellectual property, and regulatory matters, as well as compliance program execution and joint venture administration. The ideal candidate works effectively both independently and under attorney direction, manages competing priorities with strong organizational skills, and communicates professionally across all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities

Compliance Program Execution & Operations Support
Support execution of the compliance work plan by coordinating initiatives, maintaining action logs/project tracking and status reporting, and preserving program documentation/evidence for audits, inquiries, and leadership updates
Provide operational support for core compliance activities, including policy lifecycle management, training tracking/metrics, third-party due diligence support, and remediation/corrective action follow-through, as directed
Joint Venture Administration
Administer the Joint Venture (JV) management process by coordinating cross-functional stakeholders to execute governance steps, internal controls, and recurring deliverables
Maintain centralized, version-controlled JV agreements and governance records
Track obligations, reporting requirements, and key dates, and escalate governance gaps, missed deliverables, or noncompliance risks to Legal/Compliance leadership
Legal Research & Drafting
Perform targeted legal and factual research using electronic research platforms across practice areas including employment/labor, government contracting, intellectual property, and regulatory matters
Prepare concise written summaries and memoranda for attorney review
Assist attorneys in drafting and reviewing legal documents including contracts, correspondence, response letters, and preservation memoranda
Litigation & Discovery Support
Support in-house and outside counsel on litigation, administrative, and regulatory matters
Assist with discovery management including implementing legal holds and coordinating document collection and retention
Assist in responding to third-party subpoenas, demand letters, disputes, and government inquiries
Maintain matter files including pleadings, discovery, and correspondence
Regulatory & Agency Filings
Coordinate and assist with filings and correspondence with regulatory and government agencies
Support counsel on administrative compliance and enforcement matters
Assist with factual development, document review, and timeline creation for employment, government contracting, and other regulatory matters
Knowledge Management & Internal Guidance
Build and maintain internal legal and compliance knowledge repositories
Assist in developing internal guidance materials, checklists, and training resources related to compliance, contract processes, and legal requirements
Internal Client Support & Cross-Functional Liaison
Serve as a professional point of contact for internal clients
Triage and respond to routine legal and compliance inquiries and route matters appropriately
Liaise with Contracts, Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, and other departments to support legal and compliance matters
Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
Familiarity with electronic legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) or compliance management tools
Working knowledge of legal processes, compliance program operations, or both
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively under attorney or compliance leadership direction
Discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a legal, compliance, or related operational role, preferably in an in-house or corporate environment
Experience supporting legal matters across multiple practice areas (e.g., employment/labor, government contracting, regulatory) and/or corporate compliance program execution preferred
Demonstrated ability to manage documentation, track deadlines, and support cross-functional initiatives in a structured, detail-oriented manner
