For over thirty years, Boston Public Schools has developed a network of Alternative Education Schools and Programs to help prepare students for future success by providing a supportive, non-traditional yet academically challenging school environment for these students. It is important to note that our Alternative Education Schools/ Programs are designed to respond to those students who are not succeeding in the traditional school environment, who are at-risk of dropping out or who may have already dropped out of the traditional high school. The reasons students drop out are many; The four common areas in which a student may experience challenges that put him/her at-risk for NOT completing high school are: Student; Family; School and Community Related. The Alternative Education landscape in BPS consists of 12 schools and programs located throughout the city including Adult Education.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Pathways Coordinator for Educational Options will report to the Director of Alternative Education and collaborate with the Office of Career and Technical and Education and the Office of Postsecondary Initiatives to provide comprehensive support to the alternative schools/ programs and ensure that they have the information and support to maintain and support the development of pathways that meet the MA. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements programs; attend related meetings internally and externally; assists as liaison between, BPS central office, teachers and the school administration.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND GOALS:

The Pathways Coordinator is responsible for cultivating and fostering positive working relationships between higher education partners, work partners, and other intermediaries to build programs and activities that will result in college and career readiness for students. Working collaboratively with school staff, college staff, and coordinating with the business community, the Pathways Coordinator will assist alternative schools and programs with student transition into college and/or the workplace.

TERMS: Managerial, Tier C41, City of Boston Residency is Required.
