The reasons students drop out are many; The four common areas in which a student may experience challenges that put him/her at-risk for NOT completing high school are: Student; Family; School and Community Related. The Alternative Education landscape in BPS consists of 12 schools and programs located throughout the city including Adult Education.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Pathways Coordinator for Educational Options will report to the Director of Alternative Education and collaborate with the Office of Career and Technical and Education and the Office of Postsecondary Initiatives to provide comprehensive support to the alternative schools/ programs and ensure that they have the information and support to maintain and support the development of pathways that meet the MA. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements programs; attend related meetings internally and externally; assists as liaison between, BPS central office, teachers and the school administration.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND GOALS:
The Pathways Coordinator is responsible for cultivating and fostering positive working relationships between higher education partners, work partners, and other intermediaries to build programs and activities that will result in college and career readiness for students. Working collaboratively with school staff, college staff, and coordinating with the business community, the Pathways Coordinator will assist alternative schools and programs with student transition into college and/or the workplace.

- Facilitate the involvement of students in creating/ participation in a 9-12 college and career pathway programs with partners.
- Based on needs assessment and identified priorities, facilitate development of partnerships with community-based organizations to provide academic support, enrichment programs, internships, summer employment and other services.
- Conduct program assessments and work closely with faculty and partners to improve the quality of programming and services.
- Ensure that partners align to the school and district priorities and expectations as well as the school improvement plan and the school's strategic plan.
- Work closely with Family Outreach Coordinator or Parent Coordinator to increase family/school connections and better engage parents in their children's learning.
- Assist the school in the collection, analysis, and application of relevant data.
- Participate in forums and professional development that deepen knowledge and skills and enables coordination of services.
- Actively create and maintain an environment in which students' diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected.
- Regularly reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development.
- Work with school leadership to monitor use and effectiveness of programs, detailed by the documents of business partnership agreements and organizational MOA's with nonprofits.
- Creating appropriate curriculum for college, career, and academic/social opportunities and completion of MYCAP yearly goals.
- Regularly reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development.

- Working effectively with employers, youth, teachers, school administrators, and program partners, Communicate with students and adults of diverse backgrounds, and ability to build relationships with students and families.
- Understanding of Computer software, hardware, and related technology
- A Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree
- A minimum of three years teaching experience teaching and/or leadership experience in educational, business, nonprofit or public sectors
- Understanding of the Boston Public Schools, the local stakeholder community, and related federal and state educational policies
- A strong understanding of Alternative Education and student profiles
- Demonstrated experience with research-based instructional practices and curriculum design including creating high quality project-based learning units of study
- Experience analyzing data and using data to drive change
- Demonstrated experience with project management, including meeting deadlines to successfully achieve goals
- Evidence of and ability to articulate commitment to equity-focused work and the role that career pathways play in closing opportunity gaps and eliminating inequitable student outcomes
- Attention to detail and accuracy and ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a high-paced environment
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with members of an active team, establish and maintain effective working relationships with school leaders and staff, and professionally represent division to partners outside of BPS
- Mastery of Google/Microsoft Office Suite and online meeting platforms such as Zoom
- Proactive, creative, and tenacious problem-solver with experience in organizing others to accomplish projects and can employ impeccable judgment, discretion, and integrity when making decisions
- Effective presentation skills and can prepare clear materials and facilitate group meetings.
