Job Summary
As an Afterschool Counselor/Instructor, you will play a vital role in designing and delivering engaging programs for children in grades K-5. You will work collaboratively with our team to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes social-emotional learning, creativity, and physical activity. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to the development of our youth programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Instruction & Facilitation:
- Teach age-appropriate skills and activities in a progressive sequence.
- Prepare and submit lesson plans or activities for each session.
- Run organized and engaging classes that promote participation and creativity.
- Connect program values and life skills to activities in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Miscellaneous:
- Provide general supervision, risk management, and downtime activities for youth participants.
- Develop age-appropriate relationships with program participants and identify individual needs.
- Assist with participant supervision, attendance tracking, and check-in/check-out procedures.
- Coaching:
- Supervise and coach junior staff, providing direction and feedback as needed.
- Motivate youth and junior staff to participate enthusiastically in activities.
- Planning & Programmatic Development:
- Assist with parent orientations, check-in/check-out procedures, and special events.
- Promote theme days or group traditions to enhance program enjoyment.
- Ensure participants have safe and appropriate equipment, facilities, and supplies.
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent certification.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Knowledge of youth recreation programs, program planning, and development.
- Service orientation, judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some college or Associate Degree and/or Bachelor's Degree.
