Position Overview:The Divisional Controller of Property Accounting oversees institutional client and trust accounting operations across multiple markets, driving results through strong general ledger expertise, strict adherence to accounting principles, and compliance with Real Estate Commission Trust Accounting Regulations.This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on technical execution, ensuring robust internal controls to safeguard financial assets while fostering innovation and efficiency. Partnering closely with internal teams and institutional clients, the Controller delivers accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting, anticipates client needs, and implements strategies that enhance operational and financial success. The position requires exceptional problem-solving skills, client-facing communication, and the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team while managing complex portfolios with precision and compliance.Responsibilities:• Lead and manage the property accounting team to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in all financial deliverables• Cultivate strong client relationships by proactively addressing needs, customizing reporting, and clearly explaining financial data• Review and approve financial packages for delivery to clients• Work closely with the property management team to create and review annual operating budgets for client portfolios• Oversee the monthly trust accounting close process for all portfolios• Lead strategic planning and team meetings to align departmental goals with company objectives• Manage departmental resources to accommodate acquisitions, new client onboarding, and portfolio growth• Collaborate across divisions and departments to drive operational efficiency• Provide technical accounting guidance to team members, ensuring complex transactions are handled accurately• Resolve escalated client and transaction issues with professionalism and expertise• Research and correct general ledger discrepancies, ensuring clean and compliant financials• Assist in internal and external audits by preparing and reviewing necessary documentation• Maintain and enforce accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and regulatory compliance• Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with property transactionsRequirements:• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; real estate experience preferred• 5+ years in a supervisory accounting role; 7+ years of general ledger accounting experience• High proficiency in accounting software; AppFolio experience preferred• Expertise in both cash and accrual basis reporting• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and client relationship skills• Strong Excel skills for financial modeling and analysis• Adaptability in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments• Exceptional attention to detail, ownership, and accountabilityWhat You Can Look Forward To:• Limitless Learning & Growth: Uncapped professional development opportunities, including weekly company-wide sessions focused on both personal and professional growth.• Comprehensive Benefits Package: Substantial health, dental, and vision coverage to keep you and your family well taken care of. • Time Off That Works for You: Enjoy unlimited PTO, plus 8 paid company holidays — because balance matters. • Culture That Prioritizes People: Weekly company-wide Q&A sessions with our CEO and leadership team — your chance to connect, be recognized, and have your voice heard. • Innovation Starts Here: Weekly team meetings dedicated to process improvement, collaboration, and solving real challenges — your ideas matter.• All-In Onboarding: Kick off your journey with in-person training at our HQ in Birmingham, Alabama.
