We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming and you’re probably keen to find out what’s on offer — so let’s get straight to it. Where and how you can work Our flagship campus is in Sydney, but we also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. We embrace flexibility — you choose where and how you work best with your team. What you’d be doing in this role We’re now building a brand new team — Video Storyline — and we’re searching for an Engineering Manager to lead the charge. You’ll work closely with our Staff Engineer and collaborate with design, product, and AI researchers to create AI-driven video editing experiences that feel magical and empowering — not intimidating. This is a unique opportunity to shape a new surface from the ground up. Video Storyline will support complex video generation on the desktop— including beat-syncing, intelligent timing, and creative composition — all powered by AI, and all designed for everyday users. At the moment, this role is focused on: Leading and growing a high-performing frontend team focused on AI-powered video editing Delivering intuitive new editing surfaces that simplify complex creative tasks Building expressive tools for sequencing, timing, and audio/visual storytelling Collaborating with technical leadership to explore new interaction patterns Defining and owning the frontend technical roadmap Championing frontend excellence — performance, responsiveness, and usability You’re probably a match if: You have a strong frontend background (TypeScript is our bread and butter) and experience building rich, interactive tools You’ve worked on creative tools — ideally in video, gaming, audio, or similar interactive media You understand the unique demands of building for mobile and large-screen experiences You’re product-minded and passionate about helping people create, even if they’re not “technical” You know when to simplify — and how to translate technical complexity into user delight You’ve coached and developed engineers and love seeing your team thrive You’re comfortable working in a fast-moving, R&D-style environment where ideas are tested, iterated, and shipped quickly You have a bias to action — you move ideas forward even when everything isn’t perfectly defined About the Group The Video group is building the future of video at Canva — from fast, social-first formats to cinematic storytelling surfaces powered by AI. We’re on a mission to make professional-quality video creation accessible to everyone, not just designers or editors. We’re focused on building intuitive tools that help users create standout content without needing to learn complex timelines, keyframes, or editing workflows. Whether it’s through smart templates, automated beat-syncing, or AI-generated scenes, we’re reimagining video editing from the ground up — so anyone can go from idea to publish-ready video in minutes. What’s in it for you? Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard – and we do – but you’ll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work. Here’s a taste of what’s on offer: Equity packages – we want our success to be yours too Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally Check out lifeatcanva.com for more info.
