Corporate Financial Controller

Job descriptionController - Novi, MI (REMOTE)We are looking for an analytical and passionate finance professional to join our company as the Controller. This role will serve as a key driver on finance and operations unit, playing an instrumental role in strategic decision-making, key business processes and achieving growth and profitability. To succeed in this role, you must have strong leadership, communications and relationships skills as well as strong problem solving and analytical skills. The role will report to the CEO.Key Responsibilities• Lead all daily accounting functions, including AP/AR, inventory accounting, cost of goods sold (COGS), revenue recognition, and general ledger management• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes and ensure compliance with GAAP. • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP standards• Ensure accurate accounting of e-commerce transactions across marketplaces, payment processors, fulfillment centers, and returns• Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the accounting records and financial systems• Provide ad hoc reporting to analyze and support company decision making• Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures• Ensure compliance with sales tax obligations across states• Coordinate and support external audits and tax filings• Assist with preparation of forecasted financials• Lead team to complete field exams, inventory valuations and borrowing base reporting• Oversee accounting and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Shopify and Avalara integrations)• Seek out and implement continuous improvement opportunities in all areas of responsibility• Requirements• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Masters preferred• 7–10+ years of accounting/finance experience, including leadership roles• Prior experience in e-commerce, online retail, or consumer products industry strongly preferred• Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems; experience with Shopify, NetSuite and Avalara is a plus• Experience in fast paced, start-up environments is preferred - able to work comfortably under pressure, frequently changing landscape and tight deadlines• A strategic thinker with excellent business judgment• Resourceful and persistent: Independently capable of seeking information, solving conceptual problems, corralling resources, and delivering results in challenging situations.• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
