Within ODMA, Multicultural Student Success Coordinators (MSSCs) offer culturally responsive one-on-one and group mentoring, coaching, and connection with student support services and resources.This Intern will report to the MSSC for undocumented students (with or without DACA) and families with mixed immigration statuses at the Dream Center. The SLCC Dream Center works holistically with this population from college access to graduation. Essential Responsibilities and Duties• Work collaboratively to develop and deliver thoughtful educational, informative, and empowering programming for undocumented students (with or without DACA) and families with mixed immigration statuses in Utah. • Provide educational information on how to support undocumented students to the public including local middle schools, high schools, and partnering organizations by traveling to and coordinating workshops, presentations, tabling and trainings collaboratively or individually.• Support and mentor students by answering questions about access to higher education as well as various ways of navigating the higher education system. This will require interns to become familiarized and keep themselves continuously informed about the policies and services that benefit undocumented students (with or without DACA) at SLCC, the state of Utah, and the United States. • Support the Dream Center coordinator by taking overflow student meetings, questions, emails, and calls. • Support the Dream Center coordinator with managing the Bruin Dreams Scholarship Mentorship.This may include keeping track of new and previously awarded recipients, meeting with new recipients regarding expectations, and continuing to follow up with previously awarded recipients. Additionally, duties may include helping with the Undocumented Student Resource Committee regarding the Bruin Dreams Scholarship Mentorship. • Perform clerical functions such as data entry, spreadsheets, and other forms of assessment as assigned. • Other duties as assignedEssential Responsibilities and Duties ContinuedMinimum Qualifications• Current Salt Lake Community College Student• 2.0 GPA• At least registered for 9 credit hours during Fall and Spring semesters• Must not be receiving a student tuition waiver• Must be a U.S.citizen, permanent resident, international student, or student with work authorization (i.e., DACA, TPS). Preferred QualificationsThe CIP will professionally represent ODMA and articulate its mission, goals, and resources. Candidates should possess the ability to:a. Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of diverse individuals of varying abilities, cultures, ages, and ethnic backgrounds to maintain healthy relationships across the College. b. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, cultural competencies, and sensibilities to work with marginalized populations.c. Present in front of audiences of varying sizes. d. Work collaboratively with the Dream Center specialist, members of the Undocumented Student Resource Committee, departments on campus, and community partners. e. Organize, process, and disseminate large amounts of information (i.e. terminology, policies at the institutional, state, and federal levels, and resources) efficiently and accurately. f. Learn the requirements of SLCC services, major prerequisites, programs and degree options as well as college resources and current procedures (e.g.application, residency, placement, and orientation) as they relate to undocumented students. g. Continuously be informed about the changes in immigration policy and legislation that would impact undocumented students (with or without DACA).
