Agriculture Trade Show Copywriter (contract)
OverviewWe’re seeking an experienced Agricultural Copywriter to develop clear, compelling, and technically accurate copy for large-format display materials at agriculture tradeshows. This is a short-term, contract role totaling approximately 100 hours, running from January through early February (about 5 weeks). The ideal candidate has deep familiarity with the agriculture space — particularly crop science, agronomy, and industry-appropriate language — and understands what is legally and ethically appropriate to communicate in this field.This role requires someone who can distill complex technical ideas into concise, high-impact messaging suitable for trade-show environments, where attention spans are short and clarity is everything. Key Responsibilities• Write large-format, high-impact copy for trade-show booths, displays, signage, product panels, educational walls, and event environments. • Translate technical crop science concepts into concise, accessible, audience-friendly messaging while retaining scientific accuracy. • Ensure that all language meets industry standards for accuracy, compliance, and appropriate claims-based communication.• Conduct research as needed to clarify crop science terminology, verify information, and maintain content credibility. • Collaborate with internal partners (designers, marketing team, subject-matter experts) to ensure copy aligns with layout needs and the visual direction of the displays. • Edit and refine copy to ensure clarity, precision, compliance, and readability at trade-show viewing distances. • Provide alternative headline options, taglines, and messaging frameworks that can be visually tested across booth design concepts.Must-Have Qualifications• Proven experience writing for the agriculture industry, ideally with exposure to crop science, agronomy, seed/chemical companies, or farm-industry communications. • Portfolio or samples showing large-format, display-level copywriting OR short-form conceptual writing. • Strong ability to translate complex technical/scientific concepts into crisp, simple messaging. • Understanding of what is legal, compliant, and appropriate to state in agricultural marketing materials. • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with meticulous attention to detail.• Ability to work efficiently within a limited-hour contract and meet tight deadlines. • Comfortable working independently while also taking feedback from stakeholders. Nice-to-Have Skills• Experience writing copy specifically for trade shows, exhibits, or experiential environments. • Familiarity with compliance nuances around claims, crop performance, and regulated agricultural messaging. • Experience collaborating closely with designers on spatial copy (e.g., wall graphics, product kiosks, signage hierarchies).Contract Details• Contract length: ~80 hours total, January → early February (with the potential for additional hours as needed). • Work style:Remote unless otherwise noted. • Compensation: Hourly or fixed-fee structure (TBD). • Portfolio required, preferably with agriculture-related or large-format samples.
